Anthropic ships Claude Fable 5 — and an unlocked sibling, Mythos 5.

Anthropic announced a new top-of-the-line model family: Claude Fable 5, a "Mythos-class" model made safe for general use, alongside Claude Mythos 5 — the same underlying model with its safeguards lifted for vetted partners and researchers. Anthropic calls it state-of-the-art on nearly every benchmark it tested.

Here's the condensed version for the WholeTech network — what's actually new, the numbers worth knowing, and where it lands for the work we do.

Mythos-class $10 / $50 per M tokens Available now (Fable) Millions-of-tokens autonomy

Two models, one brain

The headline is a pair. Fable and Mythos are the same model; the difference is who's allowed to use it and with which guardrails on.

Claude Fable 5

General release · everyone

The Mythos-class model made safe for general use. It carries three safety-classifier systems that quietly route a narrow set of queries — cybersecurity, biology/chemistry, and model-distillation attempts — to Claude Opus 4.8 instead. Anthropic says those classifiers fire on average in under 5% of sessions, so most work never touches them.

Claude Mythos 5

Restricted · vetted partners & researchers

The same model with the general-use safeguards removed, for authorized users. Access is limited to Project Glasswing partners for now — not a public tier. This is the one Anthropic points to for frontier scientific work, with the matching responsibility. Full Mythos guide →

Mythos 5, up close

The restricted sibling deserves its own paragraph, because the science claims attached to it are the most striking part of the announcement.

On safety

"Mythos-class" is the part worth reading slowly. The whole design of Fable 5 is that a frontier-capability model gets shipped to the general public only with classifiers in front of it — narrow domains (cyber, bio/chem, distillation) get bumped down to Opus 4.8 rather than answered at full strength. Anthropic reports external red-teaming found no successful single-turn jailbreaks across 30 published techniques. Mythos 5, the unguarded version, stays behind partner vetting precisely because those guardrails are off.

What it means for the WholeTech network

Practically: Fable 5 is the new "careful one" — the slot Claude already holds across the network, now meaningfully more capable for long, multi-step build and migration work. Pricing is premium ($10 in / $50 out per million), so it's a deliberate-choice model, not a fire-everything default. Rollout to subscription plans is phased June 9–23, so it may not appear in every surface (including the Claude Code model picker) on day one — that's expected, not a fault.
